There is a local legend about this group of rocks along Bandon Beach.
The rocks are way cool. The legend was dumb and made me sad.
See how it’s kinda face-shaped? That’s where it gets the name.
We stayed six nights at the Bandon Beach Motel in Bandon, Oregon on a cliff overlooking one of the most enchanting, mesmerizing pieces of coastline I have ever discovered.
I shot Bandon Beach at sunrise and sunset, high tide and low tide, foggy and sunny, peaceful and menacing, from cliff side and from surf side. I became absolutely addicted
to shooting it and unable to stop myself getting another few frames from a different angle. Like every ten minutes. I shot nearly 4,000 frames in 16 days. It’s possible half
those were of this beach. Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration.
At one point I said to Jeremy (after a particularly long sunset shoot), “I can’t stop shooting those rocks! I think I may need help!” He said, “I’m helping!” as he clicked off his last few dozen frames. Thanks Jer!
Here are 25 shots of Bandon Beach that really rock!
All of our vacation accommodations were stellar, all of them comfortable. But I need to give a special shout out to the Bandon Beach Motel, recommended to me by a client who had stayed there, and our home for six nights during vacation.
What a GREAT place! We had a little kitchen so we could avoid the high cost of eating out each night. We had two queen beds and plenty of space. It was clean and the staff very friendly. And don’t even get me started on the view!
If you can’t get enough of the gorgeous view from the motel, you can walk down
130 stairs to get an up-close look at the ever changing faces of the rock formations.
There are nine lighthouses on the Oregon Coast. We shot them all!
Above is Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, also known as Terrible Tilly. We could see Tillamook Rock from our room at the Tradewinds in Seaside.
But it was usually shrouded in fog, so this is a picture on a clearer day from Cannon Beach. No getting close to Tilly without a boat.

This is the first view you get of Cape Meares lighthouse. Pretty cool, right?
Then you get down to it and it’s kinda stubby and plain.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse came next and she has a dramatic setting!
Yaquina Head is the lighthouse we could see from our room at Agate Beach in Newport.
*********
Yaquina Bay lighthouse came next. Just a big light stuck on top of a house!

Heceta Head also had a spectacular setting and if there was a way to drive out to it,
we did not find it. So we shot it from a very cool beach.
Umpqua River Lighthouse is identical to it’s twin sister, Heceta.

We missed Cape Arago the first try and had to double back a couple days later to get it.
It was only 30 minutes north of Bandon, so it was a lovely day trip!
That brings us to the Coquille River Lighthouse. Not only did I find her
to be the prettiest lighthouse on the Oregon Coast, she also happened to sit in Bandon where we spent six nights. So I got a few shots of her. In a lot of conditions.
See MORE Coquille River Lighthouse here!
Cape Blanco lighthouse was the third and final lighthouse visible from one of our rooms. Only at night. Just a teeny, tiny dot of light. Occasionally.

We enjoyed shooting all the Oregon lighthouses so much, we now bring you a BONUS lighthouse from Crescent City, California!
LOVED Oregon’s spectacular coastline and glorious waterfalls and beautiful lighthouses. But California rules!
