Now I must admit: to this point of the tour I was a bit underwhelmed.  It’s difficult to impress a California girl because we have Yosemite and Burney Falls in the backyard!  But then we drove farther north to Akaka Falls State Park.  Skip the others, really, and go stright to Akaka.  Then you’ll have more time to enjoy the Puna coastline.

Puna is the region of Hawai’i in which we are currently residing at Palms Cottage in Pahoa.    We named the peace-freak, tie-dyed hippie bear Puna.  The three of us fit in quite nicely here.

A great illustrating story: as we were standing amidst the incense wafting around Jungle Love @ http://www.worldwidepanorama.org/worldwidepanorama/wwp305/html/AndyLeffler-912.html — a shop full of sarongs, tie-dyed tees, figurines, jewelry and a sign gently apologizing for the increase in price on Pure Hemp papers — the guy at the counter with two tie-dyed tees commented to the owner how great it was he’d found them so he could wear them for tie-dye Fridays at work.
